Kottayam, Tuesday, March 02, 2010: The Kiliroor area near Kottayam district is reeling under water shortage. Water has become scarce here since 20-25 days. The natives blame the Kerala Water Authority for this worst situation of denying their primary necessity.

The Authorities says that the pumping motor is not functioning. They showed least interest in solving this problem said the natives. They have gone with the protests like strike, fasting but this couldn’t open the authorities eye. Near-by canals, lakes and all had become contaminated and unfit for drinking and even washing.

Once when the Water Authority stopped pumping to this area the Panchayat had taken initiative and restarted it. But as per the situation prevailing they also couldn’t help the villagers due to lack of fund.

At present the people are buying drinking water at the rate of Rs.5 and Rs.10 per pot.
