John Abraham has turned down the offer to play main lead in the Bollywood version of ‘Step mom’.
Karan Johar’s Indian adaptation of the Hollywood film is witnessing some shuffling in the cast. The enterprising producer had pulled off a casting coup by roping in Kajol and Kareena Kapoor in female leads while John was to play the role essayed by Ed Harris in the original.
Johar’s original choice to play the role was Saif Ali Khan who declined the offer because he thought the audience would not accept him in that role. And now John has stepped out from the movie.
Repots say John initially accepted the role but after seeing the cast that has fabulous actresses like Kajol and Kareena, he thought there won’t be much for him to do in the film and hence said no. It has often happened that when John’s co-star(s) in the film is a better performer, his own screen presence suffers.
At this point in his career, John apparently wants to be wise in accepting any offer even if it’s from a big banner. He is conscious of his screen portrayal. It’s believed that Karan tried to convince him by saying that his role will be better fleshed out than Ed Harris’ in the original. But John was hesitant.
So the role has now gone to Arjun Rampal who has happily agreed to do it. The project is still in planning stages and Karan still has to complete the legal formalities of buying the rights of the Hollywood movie.
However, John’s departure has not affected his dostana with Karan. According to sources, John and Karan will team up again for ‘Dostana 2’.
