1. R Venketaraman
Ramaswamy Venkataraman (1910 – 2009) was an Indian lawyer, freedom-fighter and politician who served as a Union minister and as the 8th President of India. In 1984, he was elected Vice-President of India and in 1987, he became the 8th President of India and served from 1987 to 1992. He also served as a State minister under K. Kamaraj and M.Bhaktavatsalam.
2. Rajan P Dev
Rajan Paulose Dev (1953 - 2009) was an Indian film and stage actor. He was born in Cherthala in the Alappuzha district of the former state Thiru-Kochi (present day Kerala). He had acted in over 140 films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language films. He was noted for his villain roles laced with a touch of humour. Rajan P. Dev died in on 29 July 2009 due to a liver disease.
3. Michael Jackson
Michael Joseph Jackson (1958 – 2009) was an American musician, dancer, and entertainer. Referred to as the ‘King of Pop’, he is the most commercially successful and one of the most influential entertainers of all time. His unique contributions to music, dance, and fashion, along with a highly publicized personal life, made him a prominent figure in popular culture for over four decades. While preparing for the This Is It concert tour in 2009, Jackson died at the age of 50 after suffering from cardiac arrest.
4. Jade Goody
Jade Cerisa Lorraine Goody (1981 – 2009) was an English celebrity. She came into the public spotlight while appearing on the third series of the Channel 4 reality TV programme Big Brother in 2002, an appearance which led to her own television programmes and the launch of her own products after her eviction. She married Jack Tweed on 22 February 2009 and died, one month later, in the early hours of 22 March 2009.
5. Feroz Khan
Feroz Khan (1939 – 2009) was an Indian actor, film editor, producer and director in the Hindi film industry. For his flamboyant style, with cowboyish swagger and cigar toting persona which revolutionised the style quotient of the otherwise conventional Bollywood hero, he is known as the Clint Eastwood of the East and a style icon in the industry.
6. Murali
Murali (1954 - 2009) was an Indian actor and author. He mainly acted in Malayalam and Tamil films. He won the National Award for best actor for his portrayal of a freedom fighter and professional weaver in the film Neythukaran. He was also a stage actor and television serial actor. He was known for his powerful portrayal of character roles, lead roles, and negative roles. Besides acting, he was the chairman of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy from 2006 until death. He also authored five books, and was also a Sangeetha Nataka Academy award winner.
7. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy
Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy (1949 – 2009), popularly known as YSR, was the Chief Minister of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. He represented the Indian National Congress party. He also holds the record of not losing any election throughout his political career. On the morning of 3 September 2009, media agencies reported that the helicopter had been found crashed on top of Rudrakonda Hill, 40 nautical miles from Kurnool. This was later confirmed by the Prime Minister’s office and all five people aboard were pronounced dead at the scene.
8. A. K. Lohithadas
Ambazhathil Karunakaran Lohithadas (A. K. Lohithadas) (1955 – 2009) was a prolific scriptwriter, director, and producer in Malayalam cinema, known for his rich, detailed, and realistic screenplays. Thaniyavarthanam, Kireedam, Bharatham, Amaram are known as the masterpieces among his screenplays, while Boothakannadi, Karuniyam, Kasthooriman, Arayannangalude Veedu are considered to stand out in his directorial ventures. On June 28, 2009, he experienced chest pain and died of heart attack.
9. Nagesh
Nagesh (1933 – 2009), was a Tamil film actor, mostly remembered for his roles as a comedian during the 1960s. He is regarded as one of the most prolific comedians in Tamil cinema. Nagesh was born in a Kannada family from Dharapuram, Erode. He acted in over 1,000 Indian films from 1958 to 2008, performing in variety of roles as comedian, lead roles, supporting actor and antagonist. He died on 31 January 2009.
10. Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal
Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal ( 1936 - 2009) was a politician and an Islamic scholar from the Indian state of Kerala.He was appointed as the president of the Kerala state committee of Indian Union Muslim League subsequest to his father’s death in 1975. Shihab Thangal remained President until his death in 2009.
