Brad Hodge starred with ball and then bat for Kochi Tuskers Kerala to dump Shane Warne’s Rajasthan Royals out of the Indian Premier League in Indore on Sunday.

Warne’s fellow Australian Hodge, with his occasional off-spin, was the pick of the Kochi bowlers, taking four for 13 from four overs as the Royals were rolled over for a paltry 97 in 18.3 overs.

Hodge then plundered an unbeaten 33 from 17 balls to secure an emphatic eight-wicket victory - with 76 balls remaining - which kept alive Kochi’s hopes in the competition.

Kochi won the toss and opted to field first, and the decision paid dividends as they dismissed Rajasthan for a below-par total on a good pitch.

Ashok Menaria top-scored for Rajasthan with 31 from 28 balls before holing out to Owais Shah at long-off off the bowling of Hodge.

Shane Watson had contributed 20 from 13 balls before being bowled by Prasanth Parameswaran. The Australia all-rounder looked to drive through mid-wicket but was deceived by a quicker delivery and saw his leg stump knocked over.

Opener Faiz Fazal (16) and number 10 Shaun Tait (10 not out) were the only other Rajasthan players to reach double figures.

Warne contributed two to the cause before being bowled by Hodge. Attempting to sweep it square, the 41-year-old got an inside edge onto the off stump.

Kochi encountered few problems knocking off their victory target.

Brendon McCullum had set off like a man on a mission and made 29 from 12 deliveries - including four sixes and one four. The New Zealander eventually went for one big hit too many, mis-timed an attempted smash over mid-wicket and was bowled by Nayan Doshi.

His fellow opener Mahela Jayawardene had departed for six but Parthiv Patel (21 not out) and Hodge finished the job off with the minimum of fuss.
