Head lice are nasty bugs that live on the scalp of a person and can make him/her scratch his/her head all through the day. Parasites by nature, head lice are very difficult to get rid of, especially if they have been feasting on your head for a long time. They eat up all the essential nutrients supplied to the hair, thereby causing damage to it. One of the most common after-effects of head lice infestation is hair loss, due damaged roots. Natural Ways To Get Rid Of Head Lice Onion Juice: Blend one medium-sized onion in a food processor and strain its juice. Apply the juice onto your scalp. Now, wrap your head with a plastic wrap and leave it for four hours. Wash your hair with shampoo. Dry your hair and use a nit comb, bringing out all the head lice. Repeat the process for three consecutive days, to get rid of the lice. Water-Vinegar Solution: Make a solution by mixing 6 tsp of tap water with 2 tsp of white vinegar. Soak a cotton ball in the mixture. Now, rub the soaked cotton ball over your entire head, concentrating on the roots. Wrap your head with a cotton cloth and leave overnight. Wash your hair the next day, with shampoo. After towel-drying your hair, comb down the killed lice, using a nit comb. Mayonnaise: Apply two tbsp mayonnaise on your head. Massage it thoroughly, concentrating on the scalp. Comb your hair after two hours, using a head lice comb. This will kill all the lice and their eggs. If you still don’t get rid of lice completely, mix the juice of one lemon and ½ tsp butter and apply on your head. Wait for 15 seconds and then rinse your hair with tap water. To get rid of all the smell, shampoo your hair afterwards. Garlic-Lemon Juice Mixture: Make a fine paste of four large garlic cloves. Mix the paste with one tbsp fresh lemon juice. Apply the mixture on your head and massage well. Wrap your hair in a cotton towel. Leave overnight. Rinse your hair with water the next morning. Shampoo and condition your hair and then comb it with a nit comb. Repeat the process for five consecutive days, to kill the head lice. Coconut Oil: Apply a liberal amount of coconut oil all over your head, especially on your scalp. Massage your scalp well, for about half an hour. Do this process before going to bed. Wear a shower cap and leave your hair as such, overnight. The strong aroma of coconut oil will suffocate the lice and their eggs, which will in turn kill them. Wash your hair with shampoo the following morning. Detangle the hair and comb it with a nit comb. Metal Head Lice Comb: An effective treatment for killing head lice is to comb your hair with a long-toothed metal comb. Wash your hair with shampoo and dry it, using a towel to soak the excess water. Apply conditioner, when your hair is still wet. Now, fill a bowl with steaming hot water. Divide the hair into two equal sections. Dip the comb in water, every time before combing your hair. Make sure that you comb all the parts of your hair, especially behind your ears and at the base of your neck. Repeat the process for 15 days, to kill the head lice and their eggs.
