Kochi, Wednesday, July 01, 2009: One more person arriving from America to the Nedumbassery international airport on Tuesday was placed under quarantine with a suspected H1 N1 flu. He was later admitted to Alwaye Taluk hospital.
On Monday, two people arriving from Canada were also kept at quarantine ad later Permbavoor hospital, the throat swabs collected from them have been send to National Institute of Communicable Diseases in New Delhi for testing.
On Sunday, the state health department had confirmed three cases of H1N1 flu. Tony,24 and Mary 43, who arrived from United Kingdom at Nedumbassery airport were admitted to the taluk Hospital, Perumbavoor, on June 24 following suspicion of swine flu. Similarly Rukhia, who had reached Kozhikode airport from Dubai was admitted to the Manjeri District Hospital following suspicion three days back. This case was also tested positive.
Since the state has three international airports catering to a large overseas Indian population, it is considered more vulnerable to H1N1 virus than many other states.
Nearly 450,000 people who reached the state from different parts of the world have been screened for symptoms of the disease until June 26.
