22 Contestants to vie for ‘Miss Kerala’ crown

Kochi, Thursday 05 Aug 2010: The 22 contestants for the Hairomax Miss Kerala 2010 pageant are readying to face the music today evening at the Le Meredian.

This is the tenth edition of the Miss Kerala contest and Impresario, the organisers, are trying to make things as different as possible this time. Among the contestants are girls who have flown in from Malaysia, Dubai and Bahrain.

“The girls are well groomed and I seem to be learning from them,” said pageant trainer Mayuri Joshi. Among the judges will be actors Anoop Menon and Ranjini, writer Anitha Nair, photographer Nisha Kutty among others. Besides the top three, there are other titles to be won - Hairomax Miss Talented 2010, Hairomax Miss Beautiful Hair 2010, Sumangali Miss Beautiful Skin 2010, Cuticura Miss Radiant 2010, Club FM Miss Voice 2010 etc.

There will be four rounds in the contest - sari, casuals, fusion and gown. Atit and Semu, the brother sister designer duo from Mumbai who have designed clothes for the whole pageant, said that they have kept in mind the concept of a blend of the traditional and the western.

Something new that we are planning this time is the gowns made of Kerala sari. “We wanted to retain the Kerala tradition but wanted it to be contemporary and different at the same time,” said Semu. “The designs for the casuals round will be peppy and youthful, not the usual jeans and T-Shirts.”

The pageant supports the Save a Girl Child cause and the winner will be a part of the campaign.
