Thiruvananthapuram, Monday, November 16, 2009: A. In the current phase of expansion, seven acres of land now in possession of Indian Air force adjacent to the main campus would be handed over to BrahMos aerospace, Pillai said.
The state government had offered to hand over 50 acres of land in the city outskirts for the third phase of expansion
BrahMos, the second supersonic missile manufacturing unit, will produce missile to the position of a full-fledged manufacturing unit. A total investment of Rs125 crore is anticipated in the unit.
The foundation stone for BrahMos Aerospace’s missile integration facility in the city was laid by Union Defence Minister, A.K. Antony in Februvary this year.
Its first missile integration complex is in Hyderabad.
The missile integration facility in Thiruvananthapuram is being built with an investment of Rs 75 crore,
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is its largest customer and accounts for around 70 per cent of the facility’s output. It has, for instance, produced components used in the Chandrayaan programme.
Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Department of Atomic Energy are the two other customers of the unit.
