Ropar, Tuesday 09 February 2010: Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni today said there were 520 TV channels in the country, with many of them lacking adequate infrastructure.
The Union government has written to regulatory authority to frame comprehensive rules for granting licence to TV channels, Soni told reporters after presiding over a meeting of District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee on rural development schemes.
Fresh applications would be considered after rules are framed, she said.
