New Delhi, Friday, March 05, 2010: Contending that the government had already implemented higher pensions for the armed forces, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said BJP leader L K Advani’s contention that ‘One Rank-One Pension’ (OROP) promise was yet to be met was “not correct.”

“Advaniji referred to ‘one rank-one pension’ not being implemented yet and my announcement in this regard on Independence Day last year. This is not correct,” Singh told the Lok Sabha.

“We had constituted a committee under the Cabinet Secretary to look into the demand for ‘one rank-one pension’ and other related issues. The committee did not recommend OROP,” he said replying to a debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address.

The Prime Minister said the government had “accepted and implemented” the committee’s recommendation on increasing the pensionary benefits of jawans and commissioned officers.
