Alwaye, Friday, December 18, 2009: Sufiya Maudani, wife of People’s Democratic Party Abdul Nasser Maudani and the tenth accused in the Kalamassery bus torching case and was remanded by Alwaye Court today. According to an appeal made by Sufiya’s lawyer she would be send to Ernakulam sub jail.
Sufiya, who was arrested yesterday after the state High Court rejected her plea for anticipatory bail, was produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate P S Joseph around 2.15 pm amid tight security.
Adequate police personnel were deployed in strength near the court complex to prevent any untoward incidents. Only police and reporters were allowed inside the court complex when Sufiya’s case was taken up.
While delivering the verdict, the magistrate also directed that the accused should be provided medical aid if necessary. After the court proceedings, Sufiya was taken to the Ernakulam Sub-jail.
In the bail plea filed, Sufiya’s lawyer has alleged hidden political motive behind the arrest of Sufiya Maudani the petition says not to take account of the remarks made by Tadiyandavede Nazir as he had fallen out with Maudani.
The defence lawyer also appealed to court to shift Sufiya to hospital, but the prosecution defended these claims and said the investigators are already in possession of the telephonic conversation between T Nazir and Sufiya Maudani which proves her link.
Sufiya, the tenth accused in the case is suspected to be part of the bus-burning incident, which was intended to send a strong message to the Tamil Nadu government which had kept Madani imprisoned in Coimbatore.
