Thiruvananthapuram, Saturday, October 30, 2010: The District Judge K Ramakrishnan has given a detailed report to the High Court in connection with the Police attack on media persons that happened on 20th of this month near Vanchiyoor court premises.
The District judge has given the report as per High Court directive to give a detailed report on the incident.

Police had on 20th October brutally attacked and lathicharged media persons at the Vanchiyoor court premises in the state capital. The scribes who suffered police brutality were present at Court premises to report protest by advocates against police highhandedness.
Two more cops have been suspended in connection with the brutal attack on media persons in the Vanchiyoor Court premises on October 20th. Sajad and Nishad both constables of Thiruvananthapuram AR camp have been suspended pending enquiry.
The decision to suspend the two constables was taken by the City police commissioner after the preliminary inquiry by DCP Joli Cherian.
The Kerala Union of Working Journalist and Trivandrum Press Club came out in strong protest against police brutality. Journalists gathered at the Trivandrum Press Club and then took out a protest march to the state secretariat.
Following the hue and cry the state Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan ordered an enquiry in to the incident after the preliminary inquiry conducted by Hemachandran, IG South Zone, two policemen including a Circle Inspector have been suspended pending enquiry.
The issue began after a case was registered against advocate N Binu for attacking Maranalloor sub inspector Manoj Chandran during vehicle examination. A verbal dispute cropped up after the cop stopped Binu’s bike for talking on his mobile while driving. After an argument, the motorist was taken to the police station and a case was registered. When Binu was subjected for a medical examination, he was found drunk.
In protest against the act, the advocates boycotted the court proceedings and the situation turned worse when they staged a protest march. The police headed by Nagaraju, Deputy police commissioner entered the court, which worsened the situation.
Major political parties and human rights organisations have condemned the incident. The Trivandrum Press Club and the Kerala Union of Working Journalists have demanded stern action against the guilty.
Indian Journalists Union (IJU) president Suresh Akhouri has petitioned Press Council of India chairman G.N. Ray seeking the council’s intervention.
He has promised to take up the matter with Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, the Kerala Journalists’ Union, the State unit of the IJU.
A policeman inside the court sprees wireless messages spreading that the DCP was attacked inside the court. This resulted in more policemen from AR camp rushing to the court. They unleashed brutal assault on all those trapped inside the court complex. The assault happened under the eyes of the DCP, who remained a silent spectator.
