Thiruvananthapuram, Monday, October 24, 2011: State Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today informed the Assembly that the Kerala Congress (B) leader and former Minister R Balakrishna Pillai had flouted the prison norms.
Pillai, who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital as a prisoner, was involved in conversations with the reporter over the mobile phone. Pillai has flouted section 81 of the General prison rules, CM added.
Thiruvananthapuaram Medical College police have earlier registered a case against Pradeep C Neduman, reporter of a private channel and channel MD Nikesh Kumar as per Court directive in connection with Ex-Minister Balakrishna Pillai’s phone controversy.
The Thiruvananthapuram Additional Chief judicial magistrate Court directed this while hearing a plea filed by Babu, a native of Paravur, seeking action against the channel reporter for prompting Pillai to talk through phone while he was serving his prison term.
If found guilty the scribes would have to undergo up to two year’s of imprisonment. The conversations were made on September 29 when R. Krishnakumar, a teacher at a school under the management of Pillai, at Valakam near Kottarakkara, was attacked.
Pillai had spoken to the reporter on condition that he would not be quoted as he was not supposed to speak to the media over phone since he was undergoing imprisonment. The channel, however, aired the telephonic talk made from the hospital.
