‘Basic facilities should be given to employees’

Alappuzha, Sunday 17 January 2010: Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran has said that the government should provide its employees with basic infrastructure before pressurising them to perform.

Delivering the presidential address at the inaugural of the Kerala Gazetted Officers’ Federation State conference here, Rajendran said it was true that there was a failure on the part of the government in solving the basic dilemmas faced by its employees.

Employees, including women, were reluctant to accept transfers to districts like Idukki or Wayanad due to lack of basic infrastructure, including accommodation facilities, there.

These had to be ensured by the government. At the same time, the government was making efforts to solve the issues and the employees should not be stubborn that they would not accept transfers to such regions, he said.

Calling upon employees’ organisations to convince their members to cooperate with the government, the Minister said a small percentage of employees were corrupt and lazy. It was up to the organisations to set these people right, while the government was not at all reluctant in initiating punitive action against such employees.

There was a good number of employees who worked sincerely, which was why the government was able to make crucial advances in the sectors of agriculture, revenue and fisheries, he said.
