Jahanara belongs to a conservative Muslim family in Thrissur. But that could come on the way of her love for Koodiyattam usually practiced by members of Chakyar caste, because for Jahanara her religion and love for art are both close to heart.
Jhanara who is studying in the Xth class at Thrissur JMJ English Medium School swears that it’s all because of the whole heart support that she is been receiving from her community as well as her family and teachers.
Jahanara has been performing Koodiyattam for past one year and is equally exponent in Bharatanattyam, Kuchipudi and Mohiniattam. She is at present a student of Kalamandalam.
Koodiyattam is recognized by the UNESCO as one of the masterpieces of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity. And is closely tied to Kerala’s Hindu temples.
