BJP holds protest against price rise

New Delhi, Wednesday 10 February 2010: The BJP today took to the streets against price rise with senior party leaders like Nitin Gadkari and Sushma Swaraj addressing hundreds of supporters and taking on the Centre on the issue.

BJP supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar in large numbers with flags and posters to protest alleged government apathy towards rising prices of essential commodities. Murli Manohar Joshi, Ananth Kumar and Vijay Goel were among other prominent party leaders present.

The crowd raised slogans like “sweet is not sweet” and also against Prime Minster Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar.

“We will take this agitation to another level. Price rise is now a big scam. Prices of everything are shooting up.Ministers are involved in this. The Prime Minister, Sonia and Pawar are involved. We have to expose this,” Kumar alleged while addressing the protestors.

BJP has launched a nation-wide campaign against price rise. Gadkari had said in his press conference earlier this week that instead of GDP, food inflation was rising and hinted that such a “scam” was not possible without the support of politicians in power. “Prices are rising due to wrong economic policies of the government,” he said.
