Thiruvananthapuram, Thursday 21 April 2011: BJP state vice-president and party candidate from Thiruvananthapuram assembly constituency, advocate BK Sekhar who died at a private hospital here, will be cremated today at Thycaud.
Sekhar’s body will be kept at the BJP state committee office at Mararji Bhavan for public to pay homage from morning 10 am to 12 and will be cremated at 2.00 pm.
The end came at 2.10 p.m. at the Amrita hospital here where he was undergoing treatment for cancer of gall bladder, hospital sources said. Sekhar, who entered politics as a student, was Thiruvananthapuram district president of the BJP and State convener of the party’s media cell and its spokesman in the State.
He had served the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and the students’ wing of the party in various capacities. He also worked as chairman of the Thiruvananthapuram Airport Development Authority, member of the Senate of Kerala University and Director Board member of Canara Bank. He is survived by wife Shyama and daughter Gouri Kalayani.
Several political leaders including Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan, Opposition leader Oommen Chandy, KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala, BJP leaders- MT Ramesh and O Rajagopal expressed grief over the demise of B K Sekhar.
