Munnar, Saturday, October 25, 2008: All’s not well for the Tatas. Today the District Collector issued notice to Devikulam Tehasildar to evacuate and acquire three major land holdings of Tata which includes, 90 acres from Chokkanad Estate, 21 acres from Pallivasal and 6 acres from Parvatimala.
Last month Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan had made rapid a visit to Pallivasal, Parvathimala, Bison valley, Chokkanad Estate and vowed to oust the land encroachers.

Most of the land that the CM claims to have have got back last year was land bordering the National Highway, which when the survey for widening the road was done many years ago, been leased back to the Tatas till such time the roads were actually widened.
This instance too must be about similar land. All that will happen now is that the government will not get the lease rent on this so called “encroached” property and after the JCBs have done their job, less tea will be produced and the roads will be more prone to landslides (The roots of the more than 100 year old bushes actually help to bind the sides of the road)
Collectors these days bend backward to do the will of the powers that be. We saw a collector in destroying most of the sidewalk on MG Road in Cochin without adding an inch to the width of MG Road!
The present Kerala Govt. is engaged in diversionary exercises to cover up for their lack of governance. VSA is doing the same thing that his predecessor EKN did - covering up for their colleagues machinations and incompetency. Unfortunately for Keralites, the Opposition is showing all the aggression of a toothless and senile tiger. Till about a decade back, it was an accepted fact that except for the communists all other parties were engaged in making hay while the sun shone. Today, the so called “democratic peoples party”, is the worst of the lot. Their motto seems to be “Do as I say and not as I do”. Today, it looks like we will need another visit by Parasuram to cleanse the State from the offal that we call politicians.
