Alappuzha, Monday 15 March 2010: A country boat, which capsized with five holidaymakers in the Marthandam backwaters near Punnamada here, created panic on Sunday evening.

However, no untoward incident was reported and all the five men were rescued. According to the police, four men from Palakkad who were holidaying in a resort here went to the backwaters in a country boat along with a man from Alappuzha.

However, Sunil who was rowing the boat lost his oar in the waters. The boat capsized after Sunil jumped into the water to seize the oar. They were rescued by the houseboat employees who rushed to the spot. They have been admitted to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital.
