Kanhangad, Tuesday, June 22, 2010: The woman sub inspector, who had been arrested for receiving a bribe of rupees 1000 from a housewife, has been admitted to the hospital.

The vigilance police led by Dy SP P A Varghese had arrested P S Leelamma (44) SI of the Woman Cell and Helpline on charges of accepting bribe. She was taken to the hospital from the Hosdurg sub jail.

The vigilance police arrested the Leelamma following a complaint filed by a woman whose daughter in law had ran away from her house.

Leelamma was caught red-handed while accepting an amount of Rs 1000 and a kg of sardine. It is alleged that Leelamma demanded Rs.5000 as bribe and 1 kg of sardine in a case relating to elopement of lovers five months back, from the boy’s mother. She threatened the mother of the boy with dire consequences. She was arrested while accepting the first installment of Rs. 1000.

The Vigilance kept Leelamma under their keen observation for the past one-week after receiving complaint from the lady. Police had also tapped her telephone conversations for evidence. Leelamma, had earlier too been alleged in corruption cases
