New Delhi, Thursday, 20 November 2008: The Central Government has given its go ahead signal for the 1200 crore Idukki package aka M S Swaminathan commission report which is based on the for improvement of agriculture, mainly cash crops in the district.
The M.S. Swaminathan Commission was entrusted by the Union Government to submit recommendations for revival of agriculture and allied sectors in Kuttanad and Idukki to preserve its ecosystem.
The package, aimed at development of the plantation and farming sectors, was drawn up in the wake of agriculture crisis and high incidence of farmers’ suicide.
