Centre should take steps to curb price rise: Gavai   Centre

Thiruvananthapuram, Friday, February 04, 2011: today urged the Centre to take necessary steps to curb the price rise of essential commodities which is unbearable for the common man. Addressing the 17th session of 12th Kerala assembly, Gavai said the timely intervention of the State government was able to control the price hike essential items.

He asked the Centre to take more steps to control the price. The price rise of petrol has caused an extra burden for the common man.
With a view to check price rise, LDF government also plans to supply 13 more items through Public distribution system with a total subsidy of Rs.337 crores, Gavai said. ‘The Centre should meet half the cost of this new initiative of the state government’, he said.

The Kuttanad Package was a relief for the people of the state. The Centre was not even ready to provide food items as directed by the Supreme Court.

The governor said in the budget to be presented on February 10, there will be more steps to control the price rise. He termed as unfortunate on the recent allegations leveled in the centre.
