Alappuzha, Wednesday, July 14, 2010: The Kerala State Chief minister V.S Achuthanandan told that the policies of the Central government were continuing to pose obstacles for the State government’s efforts to ensure welfare of the poor and the working class in the State. V.S was speaking after handing over the flag for the forthcoming Seventh National Conference of the All India Agricultural Workers’ Union at Thiruchirapalli.
Achuthanandan said the Congress policy of helping the rich industrialists had pushed the working class to starvation. V.S added that the LDF government, despite the obstacles and standing within limitations imposed by the Centre, was striving hard to continue the welfare-oriented schemes initiated by the EMS Namboodiripad government of 1957.
V.S told that the pension for agricultural workers was rupees120 and after the LDF came to power it was hiked to rupees.300 and that if this appeared to be insufficient, the government would raise it further.
