Alappuzha, Wednesday 09 June 2010: The Mavelikkara additional sessions fast track court would today pronounce verdict on Chengannur Karanavar murder case. There are four accused in the case including Sherin, daughter-in-law of the slained Bhaskara Karanavar, She is now out in bail and other three members of a quotation gang are under remand.

The case is in connection with the murder of Bhaskara Karanavar, 65, a U.S. returnee who was found murdered in his house at Cheriyanad near Chengannur on November 8. Karanavar’s daughter-in-law Sherin, 27, is the first accused in the case while three of her alleged accomplices, Basith Ali, 25, Nithin, 28, and Shanu Rashid, 24, are the second, third and fourth accused respectively. Articles worth Rs 1.25 lakh, including a laptop, were stolen from Karanavar’s room on the day of the murder.
The case, which has 96 witnesses, has Special Public Prosecutor K.M. Rajagopala Pillai appearing for the prosecution while Ms. Sherin has Suresh Babu Thomas and Suresh Mathai as her advocates.
