Kasargod, Monday, January 10, 2011: Opposition leader Oommen Chandy has today alleged that the LDF government had failed to implement the Chengara package for allotting land to the landless people who had encroached on the Kumbazha Estate of Harrison Malayalam Ltd. Speaking to the reporters in Kasargod today, Chandy demanded that the government must provide Rs 1000 as financial aid for the families of the landless people in Chengara.

The Sadhu Jana Vimochana Samyukta Vedi (SJVSV) had launched the agitation at Chengara two years ago demanding five acres of farmland and Rs.50,000 for initial farming expenses for each landless encroacher family and not for five cents to construct a dwelling place.
