Chennithala backs Kodikunnil Suresh in his legal battle  

Thiruvananthapuram, Tuesday, July 27, 2010: today told that the KPCC would fully support Kodikunnil Suresh on his decision to file a plea in the Supreme Court against the HC’s verdict by nullifying his election to Lok Sabha.

Chennithala was speaking after a meeting with Kodikunnil Suresh. Chennithala affirmed that an enquiry would be conducted on the allegations raised by Kodikunnil Suresh against some leaders, after the report by the disciplinary committee.

Kodikunnil today, filed a plea in demanding a stay on the order canceling his election to the Parliament. The Congress leader has already declared his plans to challenge the verdict in the Supreme Court.

The High Court had ordered that Kodikkunnil Suresh, a Christian convert and five-time MP, who now represents Mavellikara (Reserved) constituency, was not qualified to represent the constituency.

Justice Sasidharan Nambiar pronounced the verdict on three appeals filed by the leader’s counterpart in the then election R.S Anil and other two.

The Court verified the caste certificate produced by Suresh and observed it unreliable and fake, and that was not adequate to prove his right to contest from a reserved constituency. It also pointed out that his statements recorded at different times conveyed contradiction and hence ruled out is stating deceitful
