Vayalar Ravi

Kannur, Sunday, October 18, 2009: The Kannur district collector V K Balakrishnan would submit report to the Election Commission on the allegation of LDF that voter’s list had been manipulated and Union Minister Vayalar Ravi had violated the election code of conduct through his remarks

Earlier on the instructions of Election Commission, Collector had given submitted report yesterday. The Collector would likely submit a more detailed report today. Yesterday, Election Commission had sought report from the collector on the allegation of LDF that Ravi violated the election code of conduct.

The report would give further details about residential status of more than ten thousand voters who had been recently included in the voter’s list. The Collector had sought explanation from the Thahasildars’ earlier.

Ever since the election was declared, the Congress-led UDF and LDF had been indulging in wrangling over electoral rolls. UDF leaders had alleged that a large number of “new voters” had been enrolled in the list at the behest of the CPI-M leaders.

The by-election was necessitated by resignation of the assembly membership by K Sudhakaran of the Congress on his election to the Lok Sabha.

A keen battle is on the cards in the segment between A P Abdullakutty of Congress, who joined the party after his expulsion from the CPI (M), and former MLA M V Jayarajan of the Marxist party.
