Thiruvananthapuram, Tuesday, August 24, 2010: The Railway additional division manager Ashok Kumar today informed that the Commonwealth Express Train, a special exhibition train designed to promote the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, will reach Thiruvananthapuram from Madurai on Wednesday. The train would reach the Thampanoor railway station at 10.30 pm tomorrow, said Ashok Kumar.
It has 11 coaches — five of which feature rare Commonwealth Games memorabilia and six of which are devoted to showcasing information technology, an official spokesman said here.
Flagged off from Delhi on June 24, the train will be formerly declared open for public viewing by the Chief Minister, V. S. Achuthanandan, at the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station, where it will stay parked for two days.
From here, the train will move to Kollam on Friday and to Ernakulam on Saturday, the spokesman said. The exhibits will be open for public from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on these days. From Ernakulam, the train will track its journey back to Delhi via Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
The Department of Information Technology (DIT), Kerala, will set up stalls showcasing the Information and Communications Technology initiatives of the State.
