Congress-IUML impasse ends; league ready for consensus

New Delhi, Monday, March 08, 2010: The deadlock in the Congress over Rajya Sabha seat sharing issue with its old and trusted ally is over, after talks with the league has reportedly forsaken its demand for the seat.

Now, it is almost certain that, AK Antony would contest for Rajya Sabha seat. The Congress leadership assured the league delegation that in the 2012 Rajya Sabha election its demand would be considered amicably.

The IUML delegation was headed by PK Kujalikutty, E Ahmed, UDF leader Oommen Chandy and had also attended the talks.

This is the lone RS seat coming to the UDF’s kitty.
In the coming election to the three Rajya Sabha seats from Kerala, the Congress can win only one and that too with the IUML’s support.
The other two seats will go to the CPM-led LDF.

IUML leader P V Abdul Wahab’s Rajya Sabha term is coming to an end, just like Antony’s. IUML leaders had argued that the IUML has traditionally held this RS seat.
