Kochi, Thursday 18 June 2009: The special CBI court would on Tuesday consider the charge sheet filed regarding the SNC Lavalin case. The court would be going through the records submitted by the CBI and would decide on the acceptance of the charge sheet. The CBO counsel would be given opportunity to present the case before the court.
CBI had on last Friday submitted the charge sheet in the case before the case. Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI (M) state secretary is the seventh accused in the case. A decision on sending summons to the accused would be taken after the decision of acceptance of the charge sheet. The accused would have to appear in person before the court and seek bail, once the summons is issued.
The proceedings in the case may be disturbed if CPI (M) decides to challenge the decision of the Governor to allow prosecution of Mr Vijayan. Mr Vijayan is likely to approach the high court and Supreme Court in this regard, thereby prolonging the proceedings. It may take minimum of three weeks for the issuing of summons, once charge sheet is accepted.
