CPI demands probe against KG Balakrishnan  

Kannur, Wednesday, December 29, 2010: CPI State Secretary C K Chandrappan today demanded enquiry against former Supreme Court Chief Justice and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chief K G Balakrishnan over the alleged allegations raised against his family. Speaking to the reporters here Chandrappan added that the former CJI’s attitude in this issue raised suspicion.

He should not be given any consideration while executing justice. In this case, we are supporting the stand of Justice V R Krishna Iyer, Chandrappan added. While KGB has refused to comment on the allegations raised against his son in law and former Congress Vice President PV Sreenijan. It is reported that Sreenijan, who is the son in law of Former Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan, had allegedly owned disproportionate assets.

While Youth Congress President, PC Vishnunath has today demanded for a probe into the allegations raised against the former Congress Vice President Sreenijan. Speaking to the reporters here today, Vishnunath opined that a party level probe must also be initiated against the allegations against Sreenijan. The (KPCC) President Ramesh Chennithala had on Monday, clarified that he had not yet received any complaint about disproportionate assets owned by former Congress Vice President Sreenijan.

Probe would be conducted about the allegations against him and would take necessary actions, Chennithala said. Chennithala further said that he is only aware of the media reports against Sreenijan.

Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer had earlier demanded that the allegations raised against the Former Supreme Court Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan must be probed by a judicial panel. Speaking to the reporters in Kochi today, Krishna Iyer opined that the allegations were shameful and that the probe must be conducted by a three member panel.

Expressing deep regret over the issue Krishna Iyer added that the allegations were not only raised against KG Balakrishnan but also against his son-in law and daughter. had the full responsibility to investigate on the allegations raised against the former CJI, he added.

Allegations on financial irregularities have arisen against Balakrishnan’s son in law P V Sreenijan. A Panel of retired justices should be formed for the enquiry, Krishna Iyer said.

Allegations are there against Balakrishnan’s daughter and her mother in law. In such a situation enquiry should be carried out about former CJI’s financial status.

An allegation against CJI is embarrassing for the whole judicial system. When Balakrishnan was the Chief Justice of apex court, I described it as Balakrishnan era. Now I regret for that comment, Krishna Iyer said.

Krishna Iyer opined that Prime Minister has the responsibility to conduct probe against allegations against K G Balakrishnan’s kins. An investigation conducted by a private channel revealed that Sreenijan, former Vice President of Youth Congress holds disproportionate asset.
