Thiruvananthapuram, Sunday, January 02, 2011: CPI-M politburo member S Ramachandran Pillai said that the Kerlala government has been one among the strong opposers of Genetically Modified crops. Speaking to the reporters here, Ramachandran said that such seeds could be used after ensuring that they clear all the tests and prove that they will not harm the environment and living beings.
Ramachandran Pillai opined that opposition to the use of genetically modified crops has something superstitious behind it. The CPI (M) PB member was presenting paper at a seminar on ‘Agriculture in the Era of Globalisation’ held on the opening day of the International Congress on Kerala Studies here on Saturday.
Mullakkara Ratnakaran, state agriculture minister used the same stage to express his difference, thus exposing the divergent preceptions of the leaders of CPI (M) and CPI.
