Palakkad, Thursday, December 18, 2008: The CPM is observing a hartal in Shoranur today to protest against the attack on its local committee office. The hartal will be observed from dawn to desk. Large contingent of police has been stationed here to prevent untoward incidents.

Yesterday, Janakiya Vikasana Samiti the rebel group led by MR Murali had won the by-election to Shoranur municipality defeating CPM in eight wards causing a major set back to CPM.

Stones were pelted at the victory demonstration taken out by Janakiya Vikasana Samiti. The attack towards CPM local committee office is considered to be retaliation to that.
