Palakkad, Wednesday, February 03, 2010: Sending shock waves across the CPM leadership one more CPM leader and former MP from Ottapalam S Shivaraman resigned from primary membership of the party following differences over certain policies of CPM.
It was S. Sivaraman, who scored the all-time record margin of 1,33,674 votes over the seasoned Congress leader, K.K. Balakrishnan, in 1993 by polls after K .R. Narayanan Narayanan vacated the seat on becoming the Vice-President of India.
The resignation has come close on the heels of controversial ouster of former Alappuzha MP Dr K.S. Manoj who quit the party because of his inability to follow the CPI(M)’s new directive, which clashed with his faith.
A year back former Kannur MP A.P. Abdullakutty, had walked out of the party on similar grounds. Abdullakutty, who had won the Kannur Lok Sabha seat twice on a CPI(M) ticket, had left the party and struck back by winning the Kannur Assembly seat on a Congress ticket in the recent byelections.
These ousters have considerably jolted the CPI(M) who may want to ponder the reasons behind the resignations and the ‘rectification document ‘ in polit buro as well as central committee meeting.
