New Delhi, Thursday, May 14, 2009: Acting upon a petition filed by NSS, the Supreme Court today issued notice to Kerala state government for raising the annual income ceiling from Rs 2.5 lakhs to Rs. 4.5 lakhs.
Earlier, the recommendation made by the Justice R Rajendra Babu Commission pegging it at the level set by the Centre last year was accepted by state government.
The enhancement of the income limit was expected to bring in more beneficiaries within the scope of reservation in jobs in government and quasi-government bodies in the state.
The Central Government, had, in 1993, fixed the ceiling for OBC reservation at Rs.1 lakh per annum. It was revised to Rs.2.5 lakhs in 2004.
