Kochi, Thursday, December 02, 2010: Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) Vice Chancellor, Dr Ramachandran Thekkedath, today said he would examine the report submitted by the Pro Vice chancellor on the disfigurement of the grass sculpture of the campus and take appropriate action.
Pro Vice chancellor had conducted the probe and submitted the report to the VC today. The Vice chancellor said action would be taken against those who allegedly manhandled some journalists following their reports on the disfigurement of the sculpture, a press release said.
Meanwhile, the CUSAT Senate, which met today, demanded that immediate steps should be taken to ensure that the sculpture is re-instated. Senate member, R S Shashi Kumar had moved a resolution in this regard which was passed.
The breasts of the sculpture ‘Sagara Kaniyaka’, which was the highlight of the CUSAT campus since the past several years, was ‘pruned off’ after some women employees complained that it was vulgar. The women employees had also cited Supreme Court orders on display of vulgarity at work places. The issue had sparked off strong reaction from kerala cultural circles as many described the act as part of ‘moral policing’.
