Edu. among Muslims is improving; Report  

New Delhi, Tuesday 20 January 2009: More Muslim children were in schools during 2007-08 than in the preceding year, a Government report said, indicating an improvement in education among the community.

The enrolment rate of the community’s children increased to 10.49 per cent in 2007-08 from 9.39 per cent in 2006-07, according to the Elementary Education in India – Progress towards UEE, a report prepared by the National University of Educational Planning and Administration.
Similarly, their enrolment in the upper primary level rose from 7.52 per cent to 8.54 per cent during the same period.

The report said enrolment in primary classes increased to 134 million in 2007-08 from 132 million in 2006-07. The upper primary classes enrolment also increased to 50.9 million from 47.49 million.
According the report, percentage of girls’ enrolment in primary and upper primary classes has also increased to 48.22 and 46.99 in 2007-08 from 48.09 and 46.51 in 2006-07.
