Guwahati, Saturday 20 March 2010: A male elephant was killed after being knocked down by a speeding Rajdhani Express early today in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.

The train, on way to New Delhi from Dibrugarh, knocked down the elephant near Lamchakhan station bordering Karbi Anglong and Nagaon districts at around 3.30 a.m.

The elephant died on the spot and the train was halted for a brief time, officials said. Animal activists said such incidents have been occurring regularly as tracks have been laid through elephant habitats.
