Alappuzha, Sunday 28 February 2010: An elephant stamped its mahout to death near the Kottankulangara temple near here on Saturday. According to onlookers, a procession in connection with the temple festival was on with five elephants.
Around 7 p.m., one of the elephants ran amok, prompting the mahouts of the other elephants to remove them from the spot. Shanmughadas, 46, the mahout of an elephant, Mullakal Balakrishnan, who had injured his leg in the melee, took his elephant to a nearby field and was in the process of chaining the elephant when he fainted due to loss of blood from the injury. The elephant, on seeing the unconscious mahout lying in front on the spot.
