Idukki, Friday, February 10, 2012: The eviction process on the encroached government land in the Perinjankutty and adjoining areas in Idukki has begun on Friday morning. The eviction drive is being conducted in those forest areas where a number of private land holders had occupied large tracts of government lands.
The eviction process is being carried out by around 300 police personnel along with the forest department officials. As many as 500 encroachers in the 2000 acres of government land would be evicted today, sources said.
Meanwhile the forest department officials informed that the adivasis living in the Perinjankutty area wouldn’t be evicted. Some of the agitators who opposed the eviction process have been taken into custody by the police.
