Kollam, Thursday 13 January 2011: A father and a daughter were killed after a private bus struck their bike at Bharanikkavu in the district on Thursday morning. The man has been identified as Sasidharan of Padinjarekallada and his daughter as Athira. Sasidharan was taking Athira to tuition, when the accident occurred.

An irate mob smashed the bus and then set it afire following the incident. Police and fire force were prevented from controlling the fire and some police personnel, including an SI was injured following the rift. Attack against other private buses has also been reported from nearby areas. Locals accuse private buses of over speed, threatening common man’s life.
