New Delhi, Friday, 16 July 2010: State Industrial Minister Elamaram Kareem on Friday held a discussion with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director E. Sreedharan on the possibilities in the State for the proposed North-South High Speed Rail Corridor. Minster after the discussion revealed that a feasibility study for the implementation of the project would soon be made.

Kareem informed that the Industrial Development Corporation would be the nodal agency for the study on the rail corridor project and it would be asked to submit the report on the same within a period of 6 months. Minister expressing his hope over the project said, they would soon go ahead with the formalities of implementing the project if the approval of the state government was obtained on the same.

Minister pointing out the demand for such a rail project told that rail transport has been made the main way of conveyance in all the financially stable foreign nations. However, he revealed that ‘land acquisition’ posed the main obstruction for the project as in the case of road development.

Sreedharan had however disclosed that the possibility of the Kochi Metro Rail project couldn’t be dismissed completely as it was still under the consideration of the Union Cabinet.
