Godhra incident was premeditated

New delhi, Thursday 25 Sept 2008: The Nanavati Commission report probing into the Godhra train carnage was tabled in the Gujarat Assembly on Thursday.

The Nanavati report says the incident of burning S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express on February 27, 2002, was a pre-planned conspiracy and not an accident.

The first part of the report gave a clean chit to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi saying there were no evidence of the role of CM and any Gujarat minister in this case.

The 168-page report added that the policemen who were assigned to travel in the train neglected their duty. Consequentially, they have been dismissed.

Throwing light on the preparation of the conspiracy, the report said that the whole conspiracy was hatched at the house of Moulvi Umrej in the Signal Phadia area of Godhra.

As per the report, these two persons cut open the vestibule and threw in 140 litres of petrol. Later, using burning rags they set the coach on fire. To prevent passengers from fleeing from the burning inferno, stones were pelted, the report added.

Meanwhile, Congress staged a walkout of the Gujarat Assembly over the report in Ahmedabad.

The Modi government had appointed the panel into the Godhra train burning and the subsequent violence across Gujarat.

The commission was set up in 2002 and it submitted first part of its report after six years. The commission is likely to submit the second part of its report about their findings on the post-Godhra riots and the role of government in it by December.

No its totally baseless because its against a important vote bank group of central politics. How can be a group of so innocent and peace loving people done such a heinous crime, if its done somehow, its may be they were protesting their faith and its acceptable to burn alive women, men and children on the name of religious sentiments. So its not crime and nanavati report is totally biased. Godhra incident was just an accident as claimed, no sorry, justified by our honorable railway minister LALU.
