Kochi, Tuesday19 May 2009: The self-styled Godman from Cochin Santhosh Madhavan also known as Swami Amritha Chaithanya was convicted by Ernakulam district court today in various sexual molestation charges leveled against him.
However, his driver and close aid Thomas was let off by the court. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced in the after noon.
The court cross-examined almost fifty witnesses in the case. The CDs video graphed by Santhosh Madhavan himself proved to be crucial in the case.
He faced trial, in as many as six cases relating to sexual harassment and rape of minor girls. The trial is on before Ernakulam Additional Sessions Judge A. Haripal. Santhosh Madhavan alias Swami Amritha Chaitanya was arrested on May 13, 2008 on a complaint lodged by a Dubai-based Keralite woman.
In her complaint, she had alleged that Santhosh had cheated her of Rs.40 lakh. Further investigation by the police had revealed his involvement in the harassment and rape of minor girls.
During the trial, the judge has viewed video cassettes seized from Santhosh.
Though he was granted bail in the cheating case filed by the NRI woman, he has not been able to come out of prison as his pleas for bail in the other cases have been rejected by various courts.
