Thiruvananthapuram, Monday 17 May 2010: The price of gold shoots up, touching record level today. The price of one sovereign gold stands at 13,840 rupees today.

The price of gold per gram is Rs 1730. The price of gold stood at 13,520 on Sunday– Akshaya Trithiya day. A hike of 320 rupees has been recorded in a single day.

The price had touched 13,800 per sovereign last November, which had been the highest so far. Gold is seen as a safe investment by many considering the setbacks in the share market, which has contributed hugely to the high demand of the yellow metal.
