Thiruvananthapuram, Wednesday 10 March 2010: Kerala government is committed to implement Malayalam as the official language in all departments and courts in the state, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said.
Reacting to a statement in the assembly on the necessity to accelerate the implementation process, Achuthanandan said the government was exploring the possibility of setting up a University for Malayalam.
He said the Official Language Act on the issue was passed way back in 1969. ‘Even after 40 years, we are not able to achieve the goal’, he said.
More than 50 per cent files in the secretariat have been converted to Malayalam. Steps are being taken to convert others too, he said. Steps are being taken to convert the court parlance into Malayalam as per the report of Justice Narendran Commission, the CM said.
