Thiruvananthapuram, Thursday 23 July 2009: The state government was committed to provide at least one acre of land to landless tribals and efforts were on to achieve this target on a time bound basis, Revenue Minister K P Rajendran told the assembly today.
Rajendran was replying to a calling attention of K C Kunhiraman (CPI-M) on the necessity to assign land as per the provisions of Central Forest Rights Act to tribal dwellers of such lands and also to distribute not less than one acre of land to each of the landless tribals.
Survey for identifying the land for distribution was fast progressing and a high level committee consisting of Revenue, Forest and Welfare of Backward Communities was regularly monitoring the progress, he said.
Rajendran said it was also not a small achievement of the government that it was able to distribute one acre of land to 4000 tribals.
