Guruvayur, Sunday 07 March 2010: The 10-day festival at Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple will conclude on Sunday. The festival that began with ‘Aanayottam’ will culminate with ‘Arattu’ (holy dip). On ‘Arattu’ day the temple will open at 6 a.m.

After pujas, Arattu procession will begin at 6.30 a.m. The idol of Lord Guruvayurappan will be taken for the holy dip at Rudra Theertham. Thousands of devotees will take a dip after the Lord’s holy dip. After ‘Arattu’, the idol will be taken around the temple on an elephant.
The ritual ‘Pallivetta’ (royal hunt) was held on Saturday.

The Lord chased wild boars—people dressed like boars called ‘Pannimanushams’— on an elephant. The ritual represents the victory of good over evil. Guruvayur Devaswam has made elaborate arrangements for the ‘Arattu’.
