Kochi, Thursday, July 02, 2009: Reacting sharply to the Delhi High Court verdict, the Kerala Catholic Bishops Council said, the Delhi High Court verdict on the gay rights today can give a wrong message to society, KCBC spokes person Fr. Stephen Alathara. He added that the verdict is a threat to the moral ethics of society.
In an historic judgment, the Delhi High Court on Thursday ‘decriminalised’ Section 377 of IPC to make consensual sex among gay adults legal.
A bench of Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S Muralidhar said that if not amended, Section 377 of the IPC would violate Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, which states that every citizen has equal opportunity of life and is equal before law.
“We declare Section 377 of IPC in so far as it criminalises consensual sexual acts of adults in private is violative of Articles 14, 21 and 15 of the Constitution,” the Bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice S Murlidhar said.

Religious people stop interfering in human rights of individuals.. You people have curtailed development of love and sex in the society and promoted hatred in the name of GOD and superstitions.. India need to free itself from the clutches of religious leaders and adopt scientific approach to human issues
