Headley pleads guilty to terror charges; escapes death penalty

Chicago, Friday 19 March 2010: Pakistani-American LeT operative David Coleman Headley today assured “cooperation” to the US in his plea bargain appeal before a court here.

In his 35-page affidavit, Headley referred to his past record of cooperation with American authorities when he was arrested by the Drug Enforcement Agency of the US in 1998.

“In light of defendant’s (headly’s) past cooperation and expected future cooperation, and all the other relevant factors being considered, the Attorney General of the United States has authorized the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois to not seek the death penalty against defendant.

“Defendant understands that if he should breach this cooperation agreement and if the government, at its sole discretion, voids such agreement, the government will no longer be bound by its decision not to seek the death penalty,” the affidavit said.
